About me
Documentary photography is my passion. It makes me feel alive! I’m always chasing the candid, the emotional, even the un-noticed details, things that make you do a double take, little moments that make your heart swell.
In my photographs, I’m not just looking for the “pretty”; I’m searching for the story. Who are you? Who are the people around you? How do you want to remember this moment in your life, right now?
I don’t have a degree in photography. In fact, I’ve been a dentist for years, but I always had a camera in my bag. As a dentist I have learned how to truly listen to people and also be creative. My photography work is the interdisciplinary culmination of all my training in human relationships and emotions, told through images. It is my passion!
PERSONAL PROJECTS
As a creative it is so important to have ongoing personal projects to work on. It keeps you going and gives you purpose. I have three personal projects that I work on intermittently but they are always on the back of my mind. Even if I take a break from them, I always come back and create a couple images. People ask me what I want to do with them, I haven’t decided yet. In the mean time, enjoy this part of me.
STRONG WOMEN:
One of my personal projects- “Strong Women” is based on a quote by Amy Rees Anderson:
“Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them”.
I have a photograph from when I was born with my mom, my Dadima (dad’s mom), my Nanna ( mom’s mom) and my Nanima ( mom’s Nanna). All these women had different life stories, struggles and how they persevered and made their lives Amazing- each in their own way. This image is a reminder for me of all the strong women I was surrounded by and how I came to be with such great women to guide me.
My project is to photograph three or more generations of women. If you would like to part of my project- please reach out .
“AWAKENING THE BOLLYWOOD IN ME”
Indian movies, shot in Bollywood, Mumbai are known for being musicals with their songs shot in exotic locations where the actress wears a flowy saree . I have been trying to take a saree with me when I travel. Some of these are self portraits and some are shot by other photographers I travel with .
Cookbook Project
Let me start by saying that I don’t really enjoy cooking. With that being said, both my kids do like to cook and a few years ago, I thought about compiling my mom’s recipes to be passed on to my kids.
That’s how this project came to be. In it I decided to include not just my mom’s recipes but also some of my simple recipes as well. I had to put in some research on writing a cookbook and of course learning how to photograph food and that’s where my love for food photography began.
I’m hoping to get the book done soon, so I can put it out there for others to enjoy it too.
If you want to know more about any my projects please reach out.
